Government officials, manufacturers and business leaders gather in Mogadishu to recognize quality and organizational achievement.

MOGADISHU — Government representatives, industry executives and public service leaders gathered for the announcement of the Somali National Quality Awards winners, placing quality, innovation and institutional performance in the national spotlight.

The ceremony brought together representatives of the Somali Industrial Association, business leaders and public institutions. Its breadth reflected the awards program’s ambition to encourage better products, stronger services and continuous improvement across Somalia’s economy.

Organized through the National Quality Institute of the Somali Bureau of Standards (SoBS), the awards recognize organizations demonstrating commitment to quality, efficiency, innovation and outstanding performance. The program aims to strengthen customer confidence, improve operational practices and support the competitiveness of Somali enterprises.

Quality took center stage as government, industry and public service leaders gathered to celebrate organizational achievement.

Among the companies recognized were Yenisom Healthcare, Tabaarak ICT, Banadiria Coffee, Shakir and UBC Coca-Cola, representing a cross-section of Somalia’s business and industrial community.

Their recognition brought attention to the contribution of local enterprise to the country’s quality agenda and the importance of maintaining standards as Somali businesses expand their products, services and market reach.

Government participation included Somalia’s Minister of Trade and Industry, Jamal Maxamed Hassan, and Deputy Minister of Interior, Local Governments and Reconciliation, Cabdirisaaq Malaaq Hussein. Both addressed the winners’ announcement evening.

Ambassador Ilyaas Ali Hassan, Somalia’s ambassador to Tanzania and the East African Community, also spoke at the ceremony, adding a regional diplomatic presence to the gathering.

Among the quality-sector representatives addressing the event were Ahmed Hassan Maxamed Balack, Deputy Director of the National Institute, a SoBS representative and EAC focal point, and Guleed Maxamed Rashiid, Secretary General of the Somali Bureau of Standards.

The participation of national and regional representatives gave the ceremony significance beyond the presentation of awards. The East African Community’s regional quality awards framework provides a pathway for national winners to be nominated through their standards bodies, offering Somali organizations an opportunity to showcase their achievements across East Africa.

National recognition creates an opportunity for Somali organizations to present their achievements on a wider East African stage.

Chief executives and senior managers from different companies were among those present, including

Ibrahim Ali Shido, Chief Executive Officer of Somali Industrial Association. Their attendance brought business leadership into a shared forum with policymakers and standards professionals.

Dr. Abdi Akhiro, Chief Executive Officer of Yenisom Healthcare, addressed the evening on behalf of the company.

Abdullahi Mohamed Ali, representing Shakir Industry, were also featured in the event
