The Somali Bureau of Standards has launched the first phase of its Quality Mark licensing process, awarding certificates and licenses to factories whose assessed products successfully met the required quality standards.
The meeting, held at the Bureau’s headquarters, marked a step toward the forthcoming official launch of the National Quality Mark. It brought together Bureau officials and representatives of Somalia’s manufacturing sector to recognize manufacturers that had completed the required product assessments and inspections.
Among those attending were Director General Ms. Hawo Ahmed Hassan and Director of the Certification Department Mr. Abduqadir Ibrahim Sheikh Nur, alongside other directors, advisors, and staff members.
The certificates confirm that the evaluated products meet the applicable quality standards, while the licenses authorize manufacturers to display the Bureau’s Quality Mark on those products. The mark provides consumers with a recognizable indication that a product has undergone assessment against established requirements.
For Somalia’s manufacturing sector, the licensing process offers an opportunity to strengthen consumer confidence and demonstrate a commitment to quality. It also gives buyers a clearer basis for identifying certified domestic products.

As preparations continue for the National Quality Mark’s official launch, this first phase lays the groundwork for wider participation by local manufacturers. The initiative has the potential to support domestic production by making verified quality more visible in the marketplace.
